Palabora Copper Pty Limited, a subsidiary of Palabora Mining Company Ltd,is a copper mine that also operates a smelter and refinery complex based in the town of Phalaborwa, in South Africa& 39;s Limpopo Province. The mine owes its origins to a unique rock formation in the region known as the Palabora Igneous Complex.
The Palabora copper mine is South Africa’s leading copper producer. It is lo ed 360km north-east of Pretoria, close to the Kruger National Park. The project was previously developed by Palabora Mining Company PMC , which was owned by Rio Tinto 57.7% and Anglo American 16.8% .
The highest grades of copper are found in the center with up to 1%, decreasing concentric. Today only ore with a grade of 0.7% remains. Description.
